What does the acquisition with WiebeTech mean for CRU and their customers?

The WiebeTech acquisition means CRU’s Reseller Partners have several new Disk-Based Backup solutions to choose from, as well as new market opportunities to consider.  WiebeTech offers highly portable storage solutions for consumer and government markets, including the popular RTX Series with TrayFree™ drive bays and RAID systems that include advanced hardware controllers.  WiebeTech is also very involved in the forensic-digital-investigation marketplace, offering solutions that allow law enforcement to collect, store and manage digital evidence.  Plus, they offer all sorts of cool bare drive gadgets that IT folks will love, like the new Drive eRazer, a small standalone hardware solution that erases all the data on a hard drive, without even using a computer.  Besides the obvious data security benefits, if you handle drives at all, the Drive eRazer will pay for itself almost immediately in time saved.

WiebeTech is known for innovation and a focus on their unique customer’s needs.  Founder, James Wiebe, has joined CRU-DataPort as vice president of product development and will continue to provide creative product solutions for all CRU-DataPort products, so the acquisition also means our reseller partners and end-user customers can also expect several cool new products and enhancements to the CRU product line.

What new projects are planned for 2008?

CRU-DataPort has several new projects we’re working on.  A big one has been expanding our line of high quality, affordable external storage enclosures.  In addition to our new line of 4 Bay Mini desktop enclosures that fit up to 4TB in the space of a toaster, we’ve updated our larger Nearline DAS enclosure product line to support high-performance SAS/SATA (3Gb/s), Point-to-Point, Full Duplex Performance; providing up to 24Gb/s aggregate, bi-directional throughput and SAS dual-port functionality to build high-availability/ultra reliable systems.  Customers can also choose between several removable drive carrier models, including the Data Express DX115 and the improved vibration resistant DataPort 10.  We’ve even simplified external host cabling, connecting up to four drives with a single 4x multilane SAS/SATA cable and we offer host adapter kits with PCI brackets and internal cables.

From a logistics side, we’re expanding our Vancouver headquarter office, warehouse and manufacturing space by an additional 15,000 square feet to keep up with growing demand in data storage and data security worldwide.
